How To Reduce Epilation Redness And Pain

Epilation is a wonderful and easy way to remove unwanted hair growth from any part of the body, and lasts anywhere between three to six weeks. But with it also comes pain and redness. So in this post we want to help you to reduce the redness and pain from epilation.

What is epilation and what causes the pain?

Epilation is the process of completely removing a hair from its follicle, and it is this that causes the pain associated with hair removal, and redness afterwards. There are two ways of removing the entire hair of unwanted hair growth - waxing or using an epilator.

What causes the redness from epilation?

The redness you see after epilation is your skin’s response to having the hair pulled out, it feels irritated. You would normally associate this to be a negative reaction, but it’s actually a good sign. It means the whole hair has successfully been pulled out, resulting in you being hair free for longer than you would from shaving, for example.

With so many theories and tricks to reduce epilation pain and redness flying around the internet, we thought we’d put together our top tips for you.

Firstly, preparation is key to help bring a reduction in epilation pain and redness to your epilation routine. From hair length to breathing techniques, we’ve got you covered.

Don’t choose to remove hair during your period.

Your body is at its most sensitive when you are experiencing your period, meaning you’ll be able to feel even more pain than usual. It’s best to wait and wax or epilate between a week to two weeks after your period.

Breathing

When we experience pain we tend to naturally tense up and hold our breath. As hair removal through either waxing or epilating is a painful process, using a breathing technique (especially during your first few sessions) may help to relax your body and mind, making the process a little easier and a tad less painful.

Hair length

If waxing the hair should be at least 1.3mm long or longer in order to wax it off. When using an epilator, the shorter the hair the better! Firstly, there will be less length of hair to pull out and secondly, epilators actually work better when removing shorter hair. If the area you’re wanting to epilate is longer than an inch, then give it a quick trim.

Shower

If removing unwanted hair at home, have a shower beforehand. This will allow your pores to open up and soften the hair, making it easier to pull the hairs out, as well as reducing the amount of pain you’ll experience.

Exfoliation is key!

Exfoliation will be one of your best friends when it comes to epilation.

The process not only helps to rid your body of dead skin and bacteria, keeping it radiant and soft, but it will also reduce the number of ingrown hairs too.

You can use either exfoliation gloves, an exfoliating scrub or both at the same time. To get the best results you should exfoliate either a day prior to epilating or just before you do so to get the best results.

Aftercare

Your skin may feel sore and tender once you have finished, with redness appearing shortly afterwards. You can help reduce this by icing the area afterwards, which will help close the pores and reduce swelling. You’ll also need to apply a moisturising lotion to help protect and soothe your skin further.

Our FRÉNÉSIES cream cannot only soothe any irritation, while working as an anti inflammatory against epilation redness, thanks to Salix Alba (white willow) a main ingredient in the cream, but it is also your answer to stopping any unwanted hair from growing back.

Epilation really is a fantastic way to prolong hair regrowth, but if your aim is to eventually stop the regrowth of your hair, then our innovative five day treatment, hair growth prevention cream, is what you’ll need when used in conjunction with epilation/hair removal.

Our FRÉNÉSIES cream has a combination of clinically proven, natural ingredients that work to intercept the hair growth within the hair follicle. This works towards making the hair paler, thinner and eventually completely eradicated.

All you have to do, is ensure the area you are treating has all of its hair removed from the follicle, and apply the cream straight away. You need to continue the application of the cream for the following five days.

When using our cream in conjunction with epilation, you’ll start to notice a reduction in the need to remove your unwanted hair over time, until you are completely hair free.
