What is the best method to stop facial hair growth?

For facial hair removal we must take several things into consideration – area of treatment, skin type, post-treatment care, frequency with which the hair reappears.

The most common women facial depilation areas are between the eyebrows, chin and upper lip. The most common Men facial depilation areas are between the eyebrows, ears and nose.

We will expose the different methods, their benefits and care.

Before any method you choose you must PREPARE your skin:

  1. Do not use any oil or cream 24 hours before and during the 5 days of treatment.
  2. The skin has to be clean.

Female facial hair removal options

Shaving

It is the fastest and cheapest, but it irritates our skin and the worst thing is that each time the hair comes out thicker and darker, since the hair is not removed, but remains in the follicle.

Waxing

Waxing is one of the most economical and effective ways to remove hair. Unlike shaving, waxing removes hair at the root, so there are no blunt edges to stand out on your face as hair re-grows.

This makes waxing a longer-term solution, since the hair must first reform its root before re-growing, which can take about two weeks. By contrast, shaving only removes hair for five days or less, since the root remains intact.

Hot sugaring

It is a great method, but you need to be extremely careful with the temperature of the sugaring mix, not to burn the delicate and sensitive facial skin, for all other part of the body is one of the best methods.

Threading

Definitely is the best method for the eyebrows. Threading is a method of hair removal originating in Iran, India, Central Asia and China in more recent times it has gained popularity in UK, especially with a cosmetic application (particularly for removing/shaping eyebrows). In threading, a thin (cotton or polyester) heard is doubled, then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short rows of hair. Advantages cited for eyebrow threading, as opposed to eyebrow waxing, are that it provides more precise control in shaping eyebrows and is gentler on the skin. It can be painful as several hairs are removed at once; however, this can be minimized if it is done correctly with the right pressure.

Tweezers

This is a very popular and easy method, but you need to use brow scissors to trim longer hairs, checking for equal balance and proportion as you work. Then grab each hair at the root and pull smoothly in the direction of hair growth.

Laser

We have to be very careful about choosing the correct equipment, since for each skin there is a different dose of laser. We must also take into consideration that for light skin, it can leave small spots of colour in each pore, since it has burned the hair in the pore. For darker skin, the laser does not act efficiently, since it refracts the light, and the treatment has to be repeated many more times. After laser treatment, you may notice slightly darker or lighter skin. If you have light skin, you’re more likely to have darker spots from laser hair removal. The opposite is true of people with dark skin, who may have lighter spots from the procedure. You’ll want to minimize the chances that you’ll develop the most common laser-related side effects for dark or Black skin: hyperpigmentation, or dark spots, and hypo pigmentation, in which the skin pigment lightens.
